Cell Phone May Have Caused Accident

A car accident along Chippenham Parkway in Chesterfield County, Virginia last year between an automobile driven by Mauri E. Phillips and a Chesterfield Fire & EMS engine may have been caused because she was distracted by a ringing cell phone. Phillips ran into the rear of Engine 2 despite the fact that it was stopped in the right-hand lane with full emergency lights activated. Phillips was charged with, and convicted of, reckless driving and failing to move over for an emergency vehicle. For the reckless driving charge her license was suspended for 6 months, and she was fined $400 plus court costs of $72. For the emergency vehicle violation she was fined $100 plus court costs of $11.00.
